3 steps to a great day

Do you find that your emotions are leading your life and not necessarily in a good way? If you notice that you are fighting every day to feel good then it’s time to make a change.

Big changes will not happen overnight but step by step, easily and slowly they can and will start to filter into your life. Try these 3 tips to getting your day off to the best start!

1.

Start by doing something for you. Something as easy as having a cup of tea in bed before you start your day. 5 minutes to collect your thoughts and go through your plans in your mind. You can plan your perfect day.

Imagine the temperature, the sounds, the smells, the feelings that wash over you as you move through your day. You can imagine anything you wish, breakfast, a walk, friends, your partner, anything ahead of you today and then notice how you feel.

These are the emotions that you can take with you, so that if your day doesn’t pan out as you imagined, you can lean on these feelings and know that you can feel good even when life doesn’t go as planned. Because it likely won’t, but you know that you can handle the ups and downs of your day, as you always have done and now you can start the ripple effect of feeling better about it.

2.

Breathe.

It‘s something so simple that allows us to disconnect and reduce stress, giving us time and space to start our day but also a technique to use when things feel tough.

Inhale 1…2…3…4

Hold 1…2…3…4…5…6…7

Exhale 1…2…3…4…5…6…7…8

Repeat 4 times.

Breathing out for longer than you breathe in helps you to feel calm by using your vagus nerve to slow your heart rate leaving you feeling calm and more relaxed.

3.

’Music is the soundtrack of life’ * it affects your emotions and your feelings so it makes perfect sense that you can choose to use it to change your emotional state.

Choose a real feel good track or turn on your favourite radio station. Dance around your kitchen, bathroom or listen on your walk to the train. Notice how it makes you feel, notice your new energy and the emotions on your face. Are you smiling?

You‘ve got this!

Have a great day,

Kate
